Actually, that’s a minority of people. And I’ve taken offence to what you’ve assumed, so I’m going to say something back and start mindless tumblr-drama. The point of this petition is to suggest that body modification does not change character whatsoever. And it’s one hundred percent true. Especially in my own, individual case. I am extremely hard working, dedicated and smart. The fact that I have two colours in my hair and jewellery in places on my body should not and does not change the fact that I would work hard at and be right for a future job. It just doesn’t work that way, and people need to open their minds. We are not stuck in the past. We have different styles and ways of expressing ourselves nowadays. People dye their hair from blonde to black - they modified their body. So technically, by this basis, they shouldn’t be allowed to do that within a work place, either.
i agree that it’s stupid for an employer to base their evaluation of an employee on their personal style, but this hardly needs legislation. an employer is perfectly within their right to turn you down based on the way you CHOOSE to present yourself. it’s not discrimination in the sense that it is when it comes to race, income, sexual orientation, etc etc etc.
tattoos/piercings are so incredibly commonplace now that i’m pretty sure employers will be easing up on body mod policies in the next generation. it’s just a nonissue imo and i really don’t understand why people with body mods act like they’re SOOOO OPPRESSED AND EVERYONE JUDGES ME when everyone and their effing mom has a tattoo
